2024 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Planning

2024 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Planning

The Huntingdon County Commissioners are beginning an update to the 2020 Huntingdon County Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was adopted by the Commissioners on February 16, 2021.  All municipalities in Huntingdon County also adopted the 2020 Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan as the municipal hazard mitigation plan. Each county and municipality is required under the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 to have a current and adopted hazard mitigation plan. The hazard mitigation plan is used to support requests for public assistance and individual assistance after a federally declared disaster or to request pre-disaster mitigation grant funding.  The Huntingdon County Commissioners have secured a grant to complete the 2025 mitigation plan update and has hired MCM Consulting Group, Inc. of State College, PA to prepare the Plan.

A local planning team is being formed to assist with updating the mitigation plan. The plan update will be completed by Huntingdon County with involvement and input from numerous stakeholders.

Note:  Typically, without a FEMA approved plan, municipalities are ineligible for Federal disaster assistance and funding.

Initial Local Planning Team and Municipalities Kick Off meetings are scheduled for June 24.  Invites to stakeholders and municipalities were mailed by the Huntingdon County Emergency Management Agency before June 1st.  Anyone interested in participating as a local planning team member or a municipal representative, contact the EMA Office at 814-643-6613 or ema@huntingdoncounty.net

The current project schedule and a list of stakeholders contacted for the local planning team are available on this page under MJHM Planning Documents.
