Magisterial District Courts
 
The Magisterial District Court System is the local Municipal Court within Huntingdon County.  It is known or recognized by several names:  District Court, Municipal Court, Small Claims Court, Justice of the Peace, Court of Initial Jurisdiction, Minor Judiciary and Laymans Court.  The jurisdiction (ability to act) of these courts is for all of the following:
    • All summary offenses both traffic and non-traffic
    • All landlord/tenant complaints
    • All civil matters that do not exceed $10,000.00
    • Preside at all arraignments and preliminary hearings on all criminal charges
    • Set bail on all criminal charges except murder and involuntary manslaughter
    • Issue warrants
    • Accept guilty pleas on Misdemeanor 3 violations under the Crimes, Fish, and Health and Safety Codes
    • All matters within the Game Code
